Positive pressure
Teddy is doing pretty well. The biggest ongoing hurdle for him is the fluid on his lungs. Today they sent it to be cultured to figure out if it's an infection. They don't think it is, but they want to be sure before they move to the next step. Currently, they're applying CPAP, which is continuous positive airway pressure to see how he can manage on his own. It's the same general idea as a person with sleep apnea, really. If he responds well to that, and the cultures on what they're pulling out of him are negative, they'll remove the breathing tube as early as this afternoon. He still will not be ready for people to hold him this afternoon if they do that. He's still got an arterial line in, and if that comes loose, he's got some problems where they'll have to push blood, and he'll be in some distress. However, if all goes well, they'll probably remove that as early as tomorrow or so. So, if you're eager to hold him, tomorrow afternoon looks like it might be a possibility, assuming you can pry him away from his mother, his father, and his grandparents.
