Update part 4: All's well that ends well
He's out! They've repaired the truncus, and the operation went smoothly. His heart didn't show any sign of irregular heart beat. He went smoothly off the bypass. He will have a delayed sternal closure, which means that he's going to have a sterile patch on his chest for now to control swelling, which is a perfectly natural response to the stress of surgery. They'll close later at the bedside. This is just a measure to keep as little stress on the heart as possible while he heals. There's no pacemaker necessary, there appears to be no organ damage or anything else. So he pulled through excellently.
