Quiet so far...
It's quiet so far. He's in an open bay slot in the ICU and he's relaxing. He's in a bit of pain, but it's mostly managed and will be managed better shortly. After rounds, they plan to start him on Toradol, which will reduce the inflammation and reduce swelling. That should reduce the amount of pain. There's a slight concern that his BP is hovering around 120, which is higher than they want. They want it lower right now for his sutures to have a chance to heal better. So they gave him some meds to lower his BP just a bit. Everything they're doing is standard for a post op kid. However, in years past, it's usually between 9 and 10:30 that everything goes off the rails, so we're sort of keyed up right now (it's 9:52 pm as I write).
In the meantime, we're watching and waiting. Amy is reading Ted some of his favorite stories (Frog and Toad Are Friends), and we're trying to tune out the sounds of monitors on either side. There's also some toy or something that someone has that's playing some fairy twinkly music that, frankly, is getting on my nerves. Or maybe I'm a little on edge for some reason. Who can say?
Overnight, the plan is that I'm going to go home to take care of the cat, to get some sleep so Amy can have the couch here, and because I didn't bring a change of clothing. Tomorrow, they want him sitting at 5 a.m., even if it is just to rest sitting up. The tubes in him all drain via gravity. Sitting lets things drain out, which is a good thing right now. It also opens his lungs up and lets him really breathe.
