Quiet night, we hope
Teddy is sleeping right now, and has been for about 3 hours, which is great. He had a small hiccup with a bit of bleeding in the recovery room. It wasn't much, they didn't need to give him blood, they just had to get his bleeding stopped again. It's why they have kids wait in the recovery room; they can be watched there safely and have intervention immediately. We found out about it because it took them about 45 minutes longer than they said it would to get him up here. Thirty minutes over is pretty much Hospital Standard Time. Really, all it did was make them give him a little more sedative, and keep him down there a little longer.
As soon as he got into our room, he asked for "Snuggles with Mommy." So that's what he got. We got him moved over to the side of the bed, and Amy is laying on it with him, both of them asleep, even as I write this. The general plan tomorrow is to get an echo, both to check how things are holding, and to establish a new baseline for future echos, of which there will be regular follow ups, probably every 4-8 weeks. Because of COVID, the curse that keeps on cursing, only one parent is allowed down at a time. That'll be Amy because she's almost always taken him to the echocardiograms since COVID started. The thinking we have is that this will make him feel like things are getting back to normal, and he'll be more relaxed. I'll run home, get cleaned up, feed the cat, again, and come back to get them once it's done and he's about ready for discharge.
The best news of all, though, is that after hours of him crying and feeling awful, when I got back from feeding the cat and taking in our Amazon packages and mail this evening, I got Teddy not just to smile, but to laugh. Once I saw that 7 year old tooth deficient grin, I felt a lot better. With good luck, we'll be on our way home in 14-16 hours, and we'll spend 8ish of those asleep. Thanks to everyone for their well-wishes. In particular, thank you to Hallie, Teddy's cousin, who sent him a video greeting hoping he gets well soon and telling him how much she loves him. That really did perk him up.
