The Calm-ish Before the Storm
Today is Saturday. Monday is the big day. At 6 we go in and we'll stay with him in pre-op. They're likely to give him a premedication, which is something in the Valium family to help with separation anxiety and to help completely block everything that happens from his memory. We'll walk him back to the OR and then we'll separate and he'll be in the room. There's a program now at the hospital where they'll send us text messages and video and pictures for updates so we can see how everything is going. Apparently, the pictures don't stay on my phone for long, but even if they did, I doubt that I'd share them here.
We sort of had plans this weekend for people to come and visit Teddy if they wanted to, but then, the weather decided to be obstreperous. Good word, right? Hopefully Grandma and Grandpa Petry can come see the kid tomorrow before the surgery day. Grandma Judy saw him yesterday and they played during a chunk of the afternoon, after Teddy helped me out with my volunteer activity for work. We may also see other various family members stopping by tomorrow to see him.
It's coming down as I write this and Amy's playing with Teddy and the cats with a laser pointer, so he's laughing in the background. I've manged to shovel out the apron of our driveway while Amy held Teddy up at the window to watch and squeal, because it's fun to watch Daddy out in the cold. Our driveway is absurdly big, and more to the point, it backs right up to the house, so it's hard to move the snow somewhere that it won't cause more trouble. This means that we're a little buried in today. So, without the distraction of people coming to see him, and of all the other running around that we might have planned for this weekend, we're just sitting in the snow, playing with our little boy. All in all, it could be a lot worse.
