Frequently Answered Questions
I'm waiting on Amy to finish getting ready to go for yet more ultrasounds, so I thought I'd answer a few frequently answered questions.
1. How's Amy doing?
The silver lining to all of this stuff is that Amy's been doing fine, at least as far as her health with regard to this pregnancy. She hasn't had gestational diabetes, she hasn't had much in the was of morning sickness. She sometimes has a bit of an upset tummy, and she's really tired all the time. From the emotional side of things, she's holding up pretty well. As she put it last night, "You can't spend every minute of every day worrying about this stuff. You have to just get on with it."
2. How are the preparations coming?
This is a little slower. We still need to pick a pediatrician. We still need to finish redoing the bedroom. I need to rip out some carpet there and finish painting some trim. We need to get a crib. We have a dresser. I'd like to get a couple of book shelves for him. We need a chair for that room. So, we're behind on this. In the upcoming months, if you ask me to do something on a Saturday, you may very well get told that it's just not happening, because that's the day when I'm most likely to get to any of this stuff.
3. What can we do to help out? (Generally asked in response to hearing about Possibly Teddy's heart problems)
Unless you are a world-class pediatric cardiac surgeon, probably not much. Unfortunately, that's just how it is. We really do appreciate the support that we've been given and offered, but at the end of the day, we're just waiting on what happens next. Now, if you want to help with general baby stuff, we're looking for a pediatrician, and if you have suggestions, we'd be happy to hear them, but we'd like someone in the general Grandview area. At some point (probably mid to late October), if anyone knows how to refinish a wood floor and wants to help me out with that, I'd be happy to take the advice and know-how.
4. Are there baby shower plans?
Not that I know of. As a guy, I really have no idea how any of that works. If there is one planned, I've been kept in the dark about it. I know Amy's started to, sort of, look at stuff like a crib and other baby essentials, but I really don't know how that's progressed. It's a bit of a drag, sometimes, to do that stuff, because that's when it becomes much harder to not spend every moment worrying about that stuff. Or at least, that's when it's hardest for me to do that.
