I'm doing a double-backward somersault through a hoop while whistling the "Star-Spangled Banner"
For those who don't immediately recognize it, the title of this blog post is a reference to Douglas Adams. Before they left the Earth that was about to be destroyed, in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the dolphins sent mankind one last message, "So long, and thank's for all the fish." It was misinterpreted to be a sophisticated attempt to do a double-backward somersault through a hoop, while whistling the Star-Spangled Banner.
Today is my last day at Northwoods. Those of you who know me, know that I've really enjoyed my time here. It's been a great place to work, and a great set of people to work with, which is a rare and awesome thing. Almost universally the people here are fantastic. It's not a perfect place, of course, but no where is. The biggest reason for me leaving is that I just can't keep being a sometimes father for my son. Northwoods is in Dublin, near 33 and 270. If you're familiar with Columbus, you know that there's just no good way to get to that area right now. So I was seeing my son for around a hour or so a night. Ever since February 23, 2015, and my own little stint in a hospital this year, that's not been enough for me.
So it's with a certain sadness that I leave the place that's been home for the last 4 years. That being said, I am looking forward to working as a consultant for Improving. I'll be downtown, at Grange insurance. I think if there were any company in the area that might feel like home after leaving Northwoods, Improving really seems to be the place. The people I've met there so far have been great, and so I'm excited by the opportunity to work with them. Above all, it means that I can be both a Dad to a pretty awesome little kid and still be a developer.

Well then, I'll be sure to give you a mental wave as I drive past your building every day! Best wishes for your new job. <3
