Among the several issues that Teddy had at birth, the one that has worried me the most has to do with the fact that the
ventricles in his brain were slightly enlarged. Not minimize the amazing work that the surgical team at Children's did, or the amazing work of the cardiac ward there, the thing that worried me the most was this. I spend a lot of time in my own brain, so the idea that Teddy might have something wrong, no matter how minor or easily repaired, I still found the idea that he might have a problem with his brain to be the most terrifying thing. Of course, at every step along the way, doctors have said, "It's probably nothing, but we want to keep an eye on this." I've said it before, and I'll reiterate it; if you're in the medical field, or if you are going into the medical field, remember that the phrase "It's probably nothing," is absolutely the least comforting thing that you can say.
Today, Teddy had his follow up sonogram on his brain, and the follow up meeting with the neurosurgery clinic. So we got in and had the ultrasound of his brain. Ultrasounds have, for us, been not full of great news. So I was very worried. And then we went to the neurosurgery clinic, and I was still worried. Then, I met with the nurse practitioner. And I became less worried. Whenever you meet with a medical office and you talk to a nurse, that generally means that you're better off than if you're talking to a doctor. She said that he looked great. His brain is good, the ventricles, while still slightly large, are very obviously not causing any cerebral pressure. In short, there's nothing wrong with his tiny, little melon. So happy times all around. Of course, I know that a lot of the people that come here would rather see pictures of Teddy, rather than read a bunch of long-winded crap, so...
